You've most likely seen the movie ''High Fidelity.'' We won't try to convince you that this is solely our idea. We will, however, pay homage to good cinema and good fun by bringing this ''Top Five'' blog to the people in bloggerland.

Davis' Top Five Most Embarassing Moments:
5. My grandparents hearing me use the word "sex" when I was 8 and forcing me to explain it to them 4. Falling with my chair (Dan was holding on to it but it slipped) right in front of the whole band my sophomore year in high school 3. Laughing and spitting out my water on Rob Lewis following the Orchestra Concert 2. Puking at NIU on my visitation day. 1. Tripping and falling on my horn at my first concert, in front of over 250 people and a camara. Sep 23, 2001
I am working on a Top Five Fav Things about Davis list, but it is forthcoming.
So.... Lauren's Top Five STUPIDEST Things She's Ever Done: 5. Pretending to ride my bicycle drunk, hitting a curb, and slicing my head open on a sprinkler head. 4. Falling off the curb into the drainage gutter at Balboa Park (hmm, curbs seem to be the theme here). 3. The Wrong Tower of Ogg Episode 2. Driving a golf cart through a patio area (chairs and tables everywhere! mass pandemonium ensues!) --this is number 1 on my most embarrassing list but it's not quite as stupid as... 1. Throwing away my keys, ID card, ATM card, money and various other important day-to-day items at a food court in a Milwaukee area mall. Yes folks, this is recent. I still feel a little like crying and I definitely need a hug. Sep 21, 2001
That's so sweet, Grant.
Yes, it's true, everyone: I do wrestle. The last match took place at BJ and Ian's party a few Fridays back, and if tonight's party doesn't live up, I'll do it again too. Okay, since I have been very much cheered up by Grant's post, I shall pass this along to the next victim: Davis' Top Five Reasons Why She Loves Lauren: 5. She is emotional (in a good way--cry when you need to, etc) but not manic depressive or anything. 4. She is very thoughtful. 3. She *thinks* about the world and the people in it, and is very intelligent. 2. She's compassionate and a loyal friend. 1. She's FUNNY!! Gotta love incidents like the "Danse Ridicule" and barret thing.
Lauren's Top Five Things about Today, Sept 20 2001:
5. Contrabass Balalaika RULES!!! 4. Bass trombone. I actually made it sound good today. At least, relatively good to what I've been doing before. 3. The crazy funny urge I had to go running before RFO...and had to take my music folder with me so I felt like a complete ass (along with the fact that I'm a terrible runner and I had to stop every 200 feet) 2. Practicing tonight. Something's clicked on the De Meij and I feel like I can do it justice now. 1. Brass Quintet: Danse Ridule. Enough said. Sep 20, 2001
Bethany's Top 5 Fav. TV Shows:
5. Dateline 4. Frazier 3. Seinfeld 2. Simpsons 1. ER--this is also in Germany (in German), but I have no TV. Plus I don't really watch TV. Sep 15, 2001
Davis' Top Five Most Memorable and Frightening News Stories (in other words, Top Five News Stories During Which I Can Remember Where I Was)
5. JFK Jr and the Plane Crash 4. Princess Diana's Death 3. Oklahoma City 2. Columbine 1. World Trade Center Sep 11, 2001
Davis' Top Five Favorite Things About Grant:
5. Consistency. Grant never decides anything on a whim, but is very thoughtful about issues, and therefore can be counted on to maintain veiwpoints. 4. Intelligence. Grant is brilliant, and knows alot of neat random facts. 3. Great sense of humor. (If you can catch it, but if you do, it's priceless.) 2. Wonderful musician. He makes good suggestions when you ask for an opinion, and is a virtuoso tubist. 1. Good friend. Very reliable, and likes to listen and offers good advice. Sep 10, 2001
Davis' Top Five Things She Likes About Ben (sounds like his visit with Clare didn't go so well?)
5. He doesn't live by anyone else's standards or thoughts on how life should be lived. He just lives his own life without typical rules, because he's already thought about what normal societal rules mean, and whether or not they are necessary. 4. He asks very appropriate questions and manages to get people to open up to him (something I still haven't learned to do, but admire). 3. He is very passionate about music, a quality that I really appreciate in people. 2. He does care. Most people don't, and I'm glad that there is someone compassionate like that in the world. 1. He is very empathetic. In general, he reacts to his surroundings and the people he communicates with, instead of being void and removed from the world. Where are Chris, Grant and Alex?
Lauren's Top Five Reasons Not to Practice Tonight:
5. homework. well, i don't really care that much and i don't have to do very much either, but at least if i put it on the list i look studious and concerned about my educational welfare. 4. headache. could take some drugs, but really, what's that gonna do? 3. staying at home is so much more relaxing. especially when you're alone, you have a good book, and the stereo is at your disposal. 2. the raw spot on my upper lip. it hurts. it makes high notes sound like fuzz and threatens to destroy my tone as well. 1. sleep. Lauren's Top Five Reasons to Practice Tonight: 5. It's been fun lately 4. can't practice at night tomorrow or wednesday because of rehearsals/work/other such things 3. must present adult, responsible attitude to bill about practicing in lesson tomorrow. must rebuke insulting email and prove wrong. 2. lesson tomorrow 1. of course, because i want to become a great musician! and therefore the pros outweigh the cons (although the lip sore is a mighty heavy excuse) so i shall now head off to humanities... Bethany's Top 5 Things I wish I could be doing Right Now: (It's 1:42pm on Sunday here, but it's only 6:42am in the US)
5. Practicing or playing music. 4. Getting stuff I need for the week. Language classes start tomorrow. 3. Laundry, but I have no detergent or laundry sheets, but I bought some laundry tokens yesterday. 2. Hangin' with my Madison friends! It's a lazy day. 1. Doing something outside--maybe I will when I'm done here. It's the second sunny day since I've been here! Sep 6, 2001
Mmmm... I am hungry, so I shall post a food inspired Top Five:
Davis' Top Five Place to Eat on State Street: 5. Mediterranean Cafe-- the first place I went to eat with my new friends! 4. Radical Rye-- Love the pickles 3. Qdoba-- Always good, especiallly at midnight or so 2. Buraka-- A Ben and Davis classic 1. Noodles-- I already have that card that Bethany gave me all punched up!
It's cute that Ben and Bethany were apparently posting at the same time. Kind of like those "meanwhile, on the other side of the world" lines in a story book.... I would like to mention that it has been a very powerful experience getting to know the two of you-- and all of my other friends. The fact that I love you all so much in such a short amount of time is wonderful and exciting and happy.
Davis' Top Five Things Missed about Bethany: 5. All of her personal belongings about the house-- it made her presence known, even if she wasn't home. Very symbolic that she was very much a part of things. 4. She used to sing in the kitchen 3. All of the little Bethany-isms and idioms that she was a big part of 2. She's a great listener (very sympathetic) and I felt that I could talk to her about my struggles with school, people, life, etc 1. She's one of my best friends and favorite people-- this needs to be a broad, non specific answer because there are a million and one little things I miss, and this is the best way to sum it all up and cram it into one number on the list. p.s.-- Ben, I was wondering what sonnet that was. It is very beautiful, and I am glad you have it on your list. Also, I was unaware that I was the inspiration o Pathway! If this is true, I am glad because I like that song.
Bethany's Top 5 Least Fav Things about Freiburg, Germany (so far):
5. The inability to be able to say all I think and understand all in German 4. The colder weather (but I guess winters here don't get too cold) 3. The incompatability between the University and the Music Conservatory 2. The lack of free Internet access 1. The Confusion, but it's getting much better day by day But, these things are not stopping me in any way from having fun, and many of these are getting better each day!
Bethany's Top 5 Fav Things about Freiburg, Germany (so far):
5. The people 4. The possibilities 3. The lanscape 2. The city's buildings and streets 1. The language everywhere!
